Skye moved with her boyfriend to his college, only to be dumped. And Duke is her psychology lecturer's TA. Now, Skye is in a bad state. She's been in an abusive relationship and she's currently portraying the symptoms. She doesn't liked being touched, she keeps to herself, she dresses in baggy clothes. Duke sees her in class, and sees a bit of himself in her, and decides to help her. I'm not the kind of guy who would try to hurt you more when I know you're already hurting, but I'm someone willing to hear you and understand you.
Little does he know that he himself is not healed, despite what he thinks, and simultaneously Skye tries to help him too. He may be a better actor than I am, but one broken person can always recognise another one. This book does have a bit of a sad tone to it.
Перевод песни Patch it up (Elvis Presley)
Both characters are broken, and you can see that clearly from this book, and it reflects the mood of it. But I've hated other sad tone'd books before, and this one didn't cross the line for me that I disliked it. What I did like is that someone was finally opening Skye up, making her stand up for herself. Despite what her ex, Sean, did to her. Although this INFURIATED ME because everything could've been prevented by telling the cops or the university. What she was feeling is extremely realistic.
Knowing someone in an abusive relationship, I knew where she was coming from and why she wouldn't tell. Slowly, Skye and Duke start a relationship, but a rocky one at that. While Duke wants to help Skye, she wants to help him as well, but he doesn't want her help. And as two broken people, there was A LOT of pushing away from each other. But again, this resonates extremely well for what they both went through. They were extremely hurtful to each other as a ploy to just push each other away, and it works for a while before they're brought together again.
Having someone so determined to break through my shield is the most frightening thing I ever experienced. Better to be a cold and distant bitch than a wreck unable to take care of herself. Throughout this journey, you learn more about what Skye and Duke went through while they fall for one another. I liked that Duke was patient, I liked that it took Skye a long time to let him touch her, and was not miraculously able to have a hot guy touch her and it's all okay (like a lot of books I've read). "Why are you so set on seeing me as the girl I used to be?
"Because you're already so much more than anyone else, you must be breathtaking without all the pain still darkening your features. Despite enjoying this book, I couldn't give it a full 4 stars because some aspects were too unbelievable. When she tells her parents about the abuse, and that he STILL is abusing her, she tells them to let her handle it, and that she needs to be able to deal with this herself.
And her parents let her. Umm, the guy didn't just verbally abuse your daughter, he HIT her continually for 3 years and you know he's in the same college as her and STILL abusing her and you're letting her "take care of it". I don't think any sane parents would ever actually do that. So I did enjoy this, and I do give it a 3. Because it kept me interested the whole way through.
In terms of safety: [ Before anything romantic happens between them, she sees the H leaving a girls dorm. Also, the H has a dead ex where he also feels guilt over her death, but he doesn't use it as a way not to be romantic with the h at all, and he no longer loves the ex, but feels guilt. Now, despite the fact I enjoyed this book, but won't go onto the next one cause some of the things that happen that I've read in other reviews I know I wouldn't like. Skye's psychiatrist likes her, and they have a "connection", she doesn't return his feelings but likes that he likes her.
Skye and Duke keep doing their push/pull which I was hoping would end in the next book, and apparently at one point she leaves him for "his own good" which I despise. I was hoping for a more lighter book where they both face their issues and become happier together, I'm not so up for another OTT drama push / pull with another character rivalling the H. Patch up” is a book that had blown me away! I seriously didn’t epect to like it so much.
Nor did it expect it to be such an amazine book. Patch up” pleasently surprised me and overwhelmed me. It’s really hard to write a review for such a book, because there are so many things I’d like to say yet I can’t find my words. I am dumbstruck after reading this book because it had suck a powerful impact on me! It made me realize, once again, how many monsters are on this Planet and how many horrible things can happen to good people. I don’t really like book about abuse, because they scare me.

They make me afraid that something like this could happen to me. Yes, it did scare me, but it also made me realize that it’s not the worst thing that could happen to someone. It made me see that there is life after an abuse. Let me tell you why I enjoyed ‘Patch up’ so much and why it had such an impact over me.
Англо-Русский словарь по общей лексике
First, the story is so complex and sad and tragic and real that it kinda overwhelmed me. This is the kind of story that haunts you. And it’s so powerful that it’s blowing you away. Skye’s story is also very real because the feelings are very well described and you also realize that things like these happen in real life. Also, there are so many things happeningg and Skye’s character changes so much from the beginning until the end that you almost forget how the things and Skye were in the beginning. I don’t really know how to describe this story and what it made me feel.
You just hav to read the book and see by yourself. Oh my, I think she is both a strong woman and a coward. A strong woman because she still goes on with her life (if you can call it a life) after what she went through, and a coward for allowing Sean to treat her like that and for not standing up for herself in fron of him. How could she allow him to do such awful things to her? If I were in her place, he would’ve been in a hospital after the first slap.
But I think her parents are to be blamed more than her. They haven’t prepared her for something like this.
My parents often tell me what I have to do if my future boyfriends would touch me in an inappropiate way and I would never allow some boy to treat me like that. I think I just found my new book boyfriend. I haven’t developed such a strong crush for a character in a long time. Sooo what’s the word? I think I’d describe them as broken and fitting. They were complicated, broken and sometimes impossible.
Their story is that story that is so complicated and sad, yet so beautiful! I loved the fact that they were, above all, best friends. There weren’t sappy things between them and I just loooved that they didn’t say ‘I love you’l until faaaaaaar in the book. Yes, ‘Patch up’ is a New Adult book.
But no, there aren’t many cursing words. There was only one sex scene but believe me when I tell you, it was so intense that it was enough. I think this book should be a bestseller.

Everyone should read it because this is the kind of book that is really worth reading and spending your money on. People should read it and realize that their life isn’t as awful as they thought. Skye and Dule’s story taught me to flight and be strong. It showed me that the right person can help you a lot. God I haven’t written such a long review in a long time.
I think it’s time for me to stop and for you to pick up this book. Patch up” is one of the best books I’ve read this year.
